The Enchanting Charm of Sapele Wood

The Enchanting Charm of Sapele Wood

When it comes to creating beautiful handcrafted ornaments, every little detail matters. And when it comes to choosing the perfect wood to bring our Mother's Angels® collectibles to life, sapele wood is an exceptional choice. Its inherent beauty and remarkable qualities make sapele wood the perfect choice to infuse each cherished design with an extra touch of warmth.

The first time Chris and I laid eyes on it, we knew right then and there we found a special look for our angels.

Sapele wood, with its origins deeply rooted in Africa, is a tropical hardwood that boasts a striking appearance and exceptional durability. This stunning wood features a rich reddish-brown hue, complemented by subtle interplay of darker and lighter tones, adding depth and character to every piece crafted from it. When light dances upon the surface of sapele, it reveals an alluring look that captures attention and captivates the eye.

One of the most enchanting aspects of sapele wood lies in its captivating grain patterns. Each board tells a unique story, with swirling "cathedrals", quilted specks and mesmerizing flames that seem to dance across the surface. These grain patterns add depth and character to our angels, transforming them into one-of-a-kind masterpieces that evoke a sense of warmth and wonder.

Samples of unique characteristics among three different sheets of sapele wood:

Differences among boards of sapele wood.

    1. The left sample displays swirling "cathedrals" in its grain pattern.
    2. Contrasting with the designs on the left and right, the second sample features an overall lighter shade.
    3. The third sample exhibits a dappled, quilted pattern resembling specks.

Each piece becomes a singular creation, as no two will ever be exactly alike. Your own angel becomes a truly one-of-a-kind treasure, infused with the distinctive beauty that only sapele wood can provide.

Our sapele is a plywood veneer that is reinforced with an MDF core.

Using a wood veneer reinforced with an MDF (Medium-Density Fiberboard) core offers notable benefits.

    • It combines the aesthetic appeal of sapele wood with the enhanced stability and durability of MDF. The wood veneer layers showcase the unique grain pattern of real sapele.
    • The MDF core adds strength, helping to prevent warping, cracking, or splitting that can occur with solid wood.

So, as you admire your exquisite angel, remember that sapele wood is what adds that final flourish to your chosen handcrafted piece. With its beauty, durability, and captivating grain patterns, sapele wood becomes the perfect finishing touch for your beloved Mother's Angels® ornaments, ensuring they become treasured heirlooms that will be cherished for years to come.
